Christmas in Clover
(Fat Man Gone.)
Clover, Virginia: December 27th - 30th, 2001
Christmas in Clover. Rudolf never had it so good.
Tree decorations.
Over the meadow...
...and through the woods...
To Grandmother's house we go.
Grandmother doesn't live here anymore.
Nobody lives here.
Still dry inside, for the most part.
Reminds me of "Great Expectations."
Old pump? Maybe just something to get tourists to ask questions.
Aw, heck. Let's just take an impromptu tour of Clover.
This is an old country store.
These people have three well-fed cats.
This is a boarding house on the main drag.
This is the main drag Saturday afternoon about four P.M.
On the left is Martins Grocery Store. It closed about two years ago.
Not much going on now. Maybe things will pick up later.
More Christmas Decorations.
Things to do in Clover?
This is the location of the historical Staunton River Bridge that sparked the
famous battle of April 3rd, 1865. This is not the original bridge, which was a covered
bridge over 600 feet long and 30 feet high. On April 12th, 1865, an unnamed Southern
Officer gave the order to burn that bridge. According to a plaque on location, it
was one of the last bridges to burn.
And finally, what would Clover be without its power plant.
So here we are again. Almost back where we started.
Our tour was not very exciting for the younger crowd.
